In one week, your kitchen goes through a lot with culinary messes, dirty dishes, and everyday spills. It’s undoubtedly one of the busiest rooms in the house, making it more vital to keep it clean. However, cleaning every surface in your kitchen regularly, whether it’s a sauce-splattered cooktop or a coffee-stained counter, may be difficult, especially if you’re on a tight schedule. These DIY kitchen cleaning tips will assist you in degreasing, deodorizing, and sanitizing in less time. Try these suggestions to shake up your cleaning routine and keep your kitchen gleaming.

15 Kitchen Cleaning Tips

1. Keep your garbage disposal smelling good.

Smelly garbage disposals are one of the worst things in the kitchen, along with smelly trash.  To combat the smell that comes with the buildup of old food, try using ice cubes with lemon and rock salt. Freeze lemon rinds, rock salt, and water in your ice trays. Once they are frozen, place them in the drain and turn on the garbage disposal until they are completely gone. The salt helps to cleanse the gunky blades, while ice aids in the removal of build-up. In addition, the lemon will help keep your disposal smelling clean.

2. Use baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to revitalize baking sheets.

Next on our kitchen cleaning hacks list is using baking soda and hydrogen. Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide are a powerful combo that can help to restore your cookware. Even the most damaged baking sheets can look new again. Simply sprinkle baking soda on your items, and then, with a spray bottle, spray hydrogen peroxide over the baking soda. Next, spread an additional layer of baking soda on top of the peroxide. Let the mixture sit for two to three hours, and then wash them thoroughly.

3. Clean the oven while you’re sleeping

Most ovens have an auto-cleaning setting on their stoves; however, the high heat generated from this setting can cause other issues like setting off your fire alarm!  No one wants to be startled by the loud alarm or the distinct burning smell that can accompany this setting. So instead, create a solution of ⅓ cups of water, ⅓ cups of white vinegar, and ½ cups of baking soda.  Thoroughly mix the solution and put it in a spray bottle to coat the inside of the oven.

Before spraying the oven, remove the oven grates and then spray the inside of the oven, making sure to hit all the areas except the heat elements. Next, close the oven door and let the solution do its magic. This cleaning method is best for overnight cleaning as it will need to sit for about 12 hours.  Once done, simply wipe the oven clean with water and dish soap, then dry the inside of the oven with a soft cloth.

5. Clean the oven racks

Another excellent kitchen cleaning hack we have found is to use powder laundry detergent to clean oven racks.  Because the sink isn’t large enough to completely submerge the racks, soak them in the bathtub with your powder laundry detergent.  Let the racks sit in soapy water for a minimum of four hours.  Once the racks are ready, rinse them off with hot water.

6. Clean the range hood.

Unfortunately, the range hood is not usually on the cleaning list, at least not regularly—however, the hood is one of the worst magnets for grease and dust accumulation.  Over time, if not cleaned regularly, they can be a challenge. Try using vegetable oil to clean the range hood.  It may sound crazy, but it is one of the best kitchen stove cleaning tips. Pour a small amount of oil on a dry cloth or a paper towel and wipe the area clean to remove dirt.  Be sure to use just a tiny amount of oil.

7. Clean the filter on the range hood

Speaking of the range hood, make sure you do not forget to clean the range hood filter. The range hood filter gets dirty quickly, so it is best to clean it at least once a month.  One of the best methods we have found is to bring a large cook pot of water to a boil while slowly adding ½ cup of baking soda.  Once the water and baking soda are boiling, turn off the heat and submerge the filter in the pot.  If it doesn’t fit completely, you will want to flip it over to repeat the process.  Also, be sure to use oven mitts as the filter will be hot!

8. Use Flour to Polish a Stainless Steel Sink

The single best thing you can do for your stainless steel sink is to buff it with flour. After cleaning and drying the sink, dust it with flour and begin polishing. You’ll be astonished by how clean your sink is.

9. Use lemon oil and vinegar to polish the woodwork.

Our top kitchen cleaning tips include using lemon oil and vinegar for polishing. Do you prefer natural cleansers over commercial cleaners? This homemade wood polish has a pleasant fragrance as well as a gleaming finish. To create it, combine 1 part lemon oil and 1 part white vinegar in a spray bottle. Wipe clean your cabinets, pantry door, and baseboards with the solution sprayed straight onto a dry microfiber cloth.

10. Clean out your cabinets with your vacuum.

Use your vacuum to clear out cabinets for another kitchen cabinet cleaning trick. Rather than wasting time picking up crumbs with a towel, use the vacuum brush attachment to suck them up at the touch of a button. This cleaning method is very effective on pantry shelves.

12. Kitchen Cleaning Tips – Place a Bowl of Vinegar in the Dishwasher

If you live in an area with hard water, you are probably sick of your dishes looking dull after they come out of your dishwasher. Place a bowl in your dishwasher, right side up, and add some vinegar. Then, run the dishwasher — the vinegar will help fight the hard water, resulting in clean, shiny dishes.

13. Make Your Own Pot Scouring Pads using Mesh Produce Bags

Do you know those mesh produce bags that come with a dozen lemons? Or a plethora of potatoes? Don’t throw them away! Instead, stuff an old sponge into the bag, tie it up with a zip tie, and clip the ends. You now have a homemade pot scrubber.

14. Bring Baking Soda and Water to a boil in your Le Creuset.

This approach is both efficient and straightforward for cleaning enameled cookware. Simply bring water to a boil, add baking soda, and give everything a thorough stir. After a few minutes of simmering, scrape off any baked-on pieces with a wooden spoon.

15. Use Lemons to Clean Your Microwave

A big takeaway from our kitchen cleaning tips is the many uses of lemons. First, pour roughly 1/2 cup of water into a small bowl. Next, slice a lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the water.  Place the lemon halves in the bowl with the mixture. Place the bowl in the microwave for three minutes on high, or until the mixture comes to a boil. Wait 5 minutes after, do not open the microwave door; the contained steam will help remove any stuck-on food particles.  After the 5 minutes are up, simply wipe the mess away.
